If you want to be reborn,
let yourself die.
If you want to be given everything,
give everything up.

taking the yin opens the possibility to the yang. Being bent leads to being straight and vis versa. To gain knowledge one must be an empty vessel. to educate others requires emptying oneself. Yet knowledge of the tao never leaves one empty since one is never full.

ReplyDelete“Make yourself an empty vessel and receive the life force of the universal.” It is the term “make” that interest me here. So there is a conscious effort involved in this spiritual process. If I am addicted to something, anything at all, there certainly is effort involved to empty myself of the addiction. It seems to be my body, mind and soul. The effort to let go of it is mighty and here is the Tao of it: release, disengage from the addiction AND the effort. The term “disengage” brings to mind the coupling of train cars. It is the uncoupling, the disengagement of a car that allows it to be just a train car which is, after all, all it needs to be. The concept of being dragged down a track of known direction and destination is not a quality of individuation but of slavery. When I uncouple from the addictions within my life and let the train car watch the mighty train move down the track, the car (me) is empty. Empty demands fulfillment. What have I got to fill this empty car, this addiction free life? Answer: don’t direct the process. My own good will find me. This is the adventure! I have no clue at the moment of empty what will fill me. “Stay clueless” is the advice given. Enjoy not knowing what is just around the bend which fulfills “all the possibilities of all that is possible.”
