Chapter 77

As it acts in the world, the Tao
is like the bending of a bow.
The top is bent downward;
the bottom is bent up.
It adjusts excess and deficiency
so that there is perfect balance.
It takes from what is too much
and gives to what isn't enough.

Translation of the Tao Te Ching by Stephen Mitchel

  1. "It adjusts excess and deficiency so that there is perfect balance." So, close your eyes and imagine it so---no excess of sadness and no deficiency of joy. Balance for "It takes away from what is too much and gives to what isn't enough." Close your eyes and imagine the heaviness - lighter. Imagine the heart fitting into the chest and being of normal size - imagine an evenness of balance on both sides of the body - the left side relaxing to match the right. And, face the world even shouldered with relaxed direction forward.
