Chapter 71

My teachings are easy to understand
and easy to put into practice.
Yet your intellect will never grasp them,
and if you try to practice them, you'll fail.

Translation of the Tao Te Ching by Stephen Mitchel

  1. I interpret "Yet your intellect will never grasp them" as saying the Tao is not about thinking hard to solve something. The intellect looks for problems and uses these problems to find solutions. Whereas "look inside your heart" is the only place I can find solution. "The kingdom of God is within."

  2. Tao 71, Charles Muller: "There is nothing better than to know that you don't know." And I say at least I can relax. I don't have to find all those solutions I should be looking for.
