She finds deep in her own experience the central truths of the art of living, which are paradoxical only on the surface: that the more truly solitary we are, the more compassionate we can be; the more we let go of what we love, the more present our love becomes; the clearer our insight into what is beyond good and evil, the more we can embody the good. Until finally she is able to say, in all humility, "I am the Tao, the Truth, the Life." S. Mitchell
This chapter reads differently in each translation. What I understand is that I am not self rather we are Self. My world is not "out there" rather I am the world. There is no dividing line between you or me, between the world and me. --Love your neighbor as yourself.-- (1) This helps me deal with confrontation between family members or workplace folk ... it is our "little" selves butting heads. But, if I remember that we are both a part of the larger picture, Self, there is no winning or loosing. I can let go. I am my sister and she is me. (2) I think of Al Gore's environmental concern when I read "see the world as your self ... care for all things." (3) I think of Mother Teresa's life when I read "Love the world as your self."
